St Michael’s Netball Club

ST MICHAEL’S NETBALL CLUB, ASHBURTON

The seeds for the growth of the St Michael’s Netball Club were first planted in 1981, when a group of parents volunteered to teach netball skills to the grade 3 – 6 students at St Michael’s Primary School. After several years of successful interschool competition, they entered a team in the Waverley District Netball Association (WDNA) in 1984. Over the next few years the numbers of teams grew covering all age groups. In 1987 the St Michael’s Netball Club was officially formed by adopting a constitution, appointing a committee and coaching staff and incorporating the club.

St Michael’s Netball Club has continued to develop the legacy of its founding members to ensure that the values of participation have been perpetuated. Many of the original players are still competing, and have children themselves that are now part of the Club.

St Michael’s currently fields two teams in each of the sections at WDNA competition: 9&Under, 11&Under, 13&under, 15&under and 17&under. In addition to the Junior teams playing in the WDNA on a Saturday, St Michael’s currently enters teams in Waverley Night Netball Association (WNNA) and Waverley City Netball Association (WCNA) at Jells Park. This allows both Club members and others players to trial for a position in these Representative teams.

In 2016 we had teams in three grand finals that resulted in three premierships! Congratulations to the Vixens (13/U), Strikers (17/U) and Firebirds (17/U). What a day for the SMNC!

We may be a small Club but we are big in terms of community involvement, participation and support. We are committed to providing opportunities and pathways for players, coaches and umpires to become involved and stay fit, active and healthy through sport and community engagement.
